Scripture teaches that Christ — not pastors, elders, bishops, etc. — is the true head of the church (Colossians 1:18, Ephesians 5:23). Scripture also teaches that Christ has called men into the offices of elder and deacon in order to lead, guide, and serve the church. Therefore, Christ Covenant Church is stewarded by a body of elders (referred to as a "Session" in Presbyterian polity), and served by her diaconate.
The Session of Christ Covenant Church comprises three men who, as determined by the whole Session and the church, meet the qualifications for elder defined in the New Testament (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9).
Jeremy took the call to be our first pastor at Christ Covenant Church in the Fall of 2024. Prior to that, Jeremy was an Assistant Pastor at our sister CREC congregation in Langley, BC, where he served for eight years under Rev. Garry Vanderveen. Jeremy is happily back in the United States after living in Canada for the last 13 years where he finished his theological studies and met his wife Stephanie (they now have four boys with a fifth child on the way). Jeremy loves preaching and teaching the Word of God, particularly in personalized settings so that individuals can come to know Christ and the power of the Gospel in deeper ways as individuals, and in their relationships. Jeremy is also a Certified Biblical Counselor with ACBC, CCEF, and ABC.
Joshua moved to Whidbey Island in 2021, alongside his wife Kristi and their children (now four) and their extended family, in order to own and operate a Christmas tree farm that serves the island. He also works as a loan officer for home mortgages, and in his spare time, he enjoys reading and running (not at the same time).
Luke came to Whidbey Island in 2020, alongside his wife, Meagan, and was one of the founding households that planted Christ Covenant Church as it was taking root in 2020 and 2021. His passion is in his labor that the Word of God dwell richly in the body through music and liturgy that is deeply rooted in Scripture. He labors vocationally as a software engineer.
The Diaconate of Christ Covenant Church comprises two men who, as determined by the Session and the church, meet the qualifications for deacon defined in the New Testament (1 Timothy 3:8-13).
